Why Christianity?

Why Christianity?

with No Comments

Christian views are endlessly debated around the world. At a time of such skepticism, the question often asked is – Why Christianity alone is right when other religions around the world can also be right? What makes Christianity so exclusive? Why is sin dealt with hugely in the Bible?

“Where there is calm, it is the calm before the storm.” For centuries, the prophecies of Christ appearing himself were foretold by the prophets. The birth of Jesus was such a remarkable moment in history that it created an uproar in the land he was born. The calm that was till then had ended and the storm had begun. Every male was about to be slaughtered as the arrival of the king of the Jews seemed defeating to Herod. By the age of thirty, Jesus began his ministry at and starting preaching the Good News  – that there is hope for sinners and that repentance leads to salvation. He quickly began to question the motives of every hypocrite. He broke down the treacherous characters of every one who claimed to be religious. He pointed the flaws in everyone – of faith, of religiosity and of their self made righteousness. And he taught the simplicity of being a believer. Jesus brilliantly answered his critics – the Pharisees and the Sadducees. The question quickly turned to who is Christ to save us rather than where is Christ to save us.

The storm that was till then was growing even more. Jesus rose up to heaven leaving a message to his disciples – “Make disciples of all nations. For those who believe and be baptized will be saved” – Mark 16:15. The disciples go to different parts of the world, they preach, get persecuted and in the end they are stoned to death with the exception of one. Multitudes wake up to the truth and get baptized. Other than Judas who betrayed Christ, all the other disciples took their cross; they held on to their faith till the end.

SO WHY IS CHRISTIANITY DIFFERENT?

Christianity when compared with other religions is fundamentally different. When compared to other religions where the redemption of sins are through human rituals or other sacrifices, Christianity differs in all these. Rather than outward proclamation of the forgiveness of sins, a believer in Christ has already received his forgiveness through repentance. The blood of the Lamb that was poured as a sacrifice on that cross is the penultimate sacrifice for any sin. There is only the purification of the mind in the process which is not through the physical but through the divine.

In the subconscious mind, we contemplate not knowing that fulfilling our purpose also means also to rejoin our connection back with God that got severed since the beginning of time. The deep search for a creator unconsciously exists just like WiFi. Unlike other religions, Christianity goes deep down into what possibly could keep a soul well nourished. In the words of C.S. Lewis – In science we have been reading the notes to the poem; in Christianity we read the poem itself.

The vividness, the transparency of the Word i.e. the ability to see through what has been written is what makes Christianity stand in a league of it’s own. Everything pinpoints to an event in history which is available for reproof at any point of time. The Bible is an historical account of all the events that happened. It is not just the past. It is the past, the present and the future. We often see that in other religions, it is often hard to even connect two dots. Unlike other religious texts, everything in the Bible that has been written always correlates to another event. The event may have had an effect either in the past or will have an effect in the future.

If we pen down the order of of events that had been recorded in the Bible, we gradually begin to realise that prophecies that were made in the past actually happened. And they gradually occur, even now. This is the proof that Christianity has always existed; that christian values do have a positive impact on the life of a believer. Whatever that was prophesied, it’s results are always there to be seen.
