For ages, the question of God has been a dilemma among philosophers, scientists and atheists. Today, we have many questions that are still being debated – Is God really alive? Is he really there watching us? And if he is watching us, why are we facing so many troubles? It has come to a point where we question the need for God rather than ask God if He is really out there. We skip our rational thinking process only to convince ourselves that everything is destiny or that everything is what it is.
So why is it that God is such an important topic today than it was a century ago? Let’s find out.
Who is God?
The simplest definition that we have is the being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped as creator and ruler of the universe. God is referred by many names in the Old Testament. For basics, he created our world out of his own joy. Looking around, we can all see what he has made – the greenery, the scenic views, the flora and fauna and everything in it. God created it so beautiful so much that there was nothing left in his plan to finish. Of course, there was his masterpiece – and that is us!
Everything changed with sin. Sin broke the relationship between man and God loved us so much that He sent his Son to take it all on the Cross, paid in full with his blood. Eventually, we became free but the broken pieces were still lying around. This had to change. So we needed a guide and that is the Holy Spirit!
If God hadn’t really cared, we would still be under bondage, living a life full of obstacles, burdened by the weight of everything that we have to carry. This is where He comes into the scene to bring us closer to Him, taking the weight on His shoulders, comforting us in our pain by helping us fight our battles one by one.
Everything isn’t tangible. There is a supernatural realm where battles are fought and wars are won and that is the spiritual realm. God fights for us in that realm. The very life force that is in us comes from Him. Everything revolves around the name of Jesus.
So why seek God?
There are plenty of reasons. You will find a lot of them on the internet but let me tell you that there are even more reasons to seek Him. This is not for material benefits, to be free from all our worries or to be even financially free. Here are three reasons why you need God.
1. To Walk with Him
God created Earth out of his desire to see a world full of his creation. And his primary aim was for us to have a relationship that would last for an eternity. This is what he really wants from us.
The first thing we set out to do naturally is to satisfy our own desires every single day of our lives. We desire for pleasure, for friendships, for a stable financial situation and even a stable career. Our priorities have pretty much left us unwilling to seek God in the midst of our busy schedules.
God wants us to understand that seeking Him is the ultimate priority and that our lives are his blessings and that his grace is what sustains us. Sometimes, God wakes us up when troubles come our way. And that is a wakeup call, a call to walk with Him for a lifetime.
Let’s look into the life of David, Daniel and even Paul who had the heart to seek God. Their primary goal wasn’t to seek the benefits the world had to offer. Instead they sought a relationship with God that would last for an eternity. David was a man after God’s own heart. Daniel worshipped God even when all his troubles were ahead of him and he never wavered in any situation. Paul had the heart to seek God even though he found in it in the wrong places. God sought him and he had a relationship that would last for many years.
Their primary goal was to seek Him. The rest as they say is history.
2. To Know Him More
Knowing God is really important in everyone’s life. Simply knowing his name isn’t what he is looking for. What matters is how much we have known Him or how close we have come to Him.
It may take a while to get him to know deeper and that step starts today. We can begin with understanding the truths in the Gospel to gradually get closer with God and day after day we can know more about him by meditating in the Word of God.
This is what Jesus says about those who say they know God.
“Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ – Matthew 7:22.
We may say that we knew Him. If God says he hasn’t known us on that final day, then we are doomed.
3. To Partner with Him
God wants us to partner with him, to enable him to spread the Word to different parts of the world. He wants us to be a part of his plan, which he enjoys the most. God wants us to be in his team. He wants to redeem us from the power of the enemy which is why he wants us to partner in sharing the Gospel to every part of the world.
Today, there are numerous preachers and pastors going around the globe preaching the Word of God. You may not be one of them. But you can serve where you are right now, in your neighbourhood, in your office or even at your home. You can serve God wherever He calls you to be. All God needs is a yes. He will manage the rest.
Will you say yes to God’s call today? Or is it going to be next week or the day after? Today is that day when you say yes to God’s call over your life. Answering that call is the greatest thing you can ever do. That will forever be the best decision that you would have taken your whole life.
