The way to becoming a good Christian is to be steady in your ground, holding onto the faith unwavering till the end. A heart that is steady is ready.
The Bible says that Israel disobeyed God after their exodus from Egypt. It was here that they were hungry and craving for meat, wishing that they were in exile once more. Eventually, God saw their hearts and gave into their desires. They faced a test that they should have passed but they failed. In Psalms 78:37, the psalmist mentions that the heart of the Israelites weren’t loyal to their God. In the Amplified version, it is written that their hearts weren’t steadfast.
Being steadfast is a key ingredient in growing in the kingdom of God. It is an underlying factor that can change the very nature of our lives. If we aren’t loyal to God, we aren’t reaching anywhere. We may get our material blessings with ease but to please God, we have to get closer to Him than we think. Consistency is the key to growth in the kingdom.
Our world changes faster than it used to. Even as we advance faster, we forget the basics – God is interested in building up our character. Which is why being consistent is key to a Christian’s growth. The lessons learnt from Israel shows us something – God values a steadfast believer. He wants a heart that seeks him and stays with him. And he asks for it all the time. God isn’t interested in standing both sides. We can please God only by faith.
An individual that values God also values his love. Somebody who understands this also understands that God values those having a steady heart. The men and women in the Bible pleased God with their steady faith in the power of God and indeed God saw that they were with him.
Having a steady heart implies no changing sides when you want to. We see that even Jesus had a perfect relationship with the Father. We are the bride and God is the groom. Which is why it is important that we choose to be steady in God’s kingdom.
How to Stay Steady in God’s kingdom?
1. Have a consistent prayer time
The key to having a steadfast christian is to be consistent. Consistency builds up your spiritual life. Have a prayer time where you can read and meditate on the Word. This will allow you to spend time with God in his secret place where you and God are alone talking to each other.
Daniel had a consistent prayer time which built up his walk with God. This shows us that all of us need to prioritise our fellowship with God. Having a constant fellowship is the key to building up our spiritual lives in the kingdom of God.
Initially, this may not work as scheduling a time for prayer may force you to change other priorities. It may take time to build yourself gradually but over the years you’ll see yourself improving in a lot of these areas.
2. Stay active in your local church
The Church is key to our spiritual growth. A lot of Christians aren’t steady in their fellowship with God because they choose to be elsewhere rather than church. Being active in church shows us that we are steady in our fellowship with God.
We could say we don’t need to be in church to have a steady fellowship with God. But it only shows us that we need to organise a lot of things in our lives and on top of the list is having a communion with God. Visit a local church that is strong in theology and also build up your spiritual life. The church should be on fire for God and should have a mission and vision that aligns with the Bible.
3. Remove all offenses
Finally, this is one thing that we all need to be careful about. Offenses that are buried in our lives can cause us a lot of bad than good. It could hinder our walk with God. Before we come into the presence of God, we should deal with all the offences that are blocking us from having a proper relationship with God. This is really important.
The enemy will try his best to keep you and me away from the presence of God. Therefore, it is crucial that we realise what keeps us away from God’s kingdom.
4. Let the Holy Spirit lead you
God sent us his counsellor to help us, to guide us and to mentor us. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and align your heart with God. You will automatically see the difference He makes in your life. You will never be the same again when you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you.
The disciples, after they were anointed by the Holy Spirit, were bold, courageous and united in the Lord. They have never looked back to their past ever since.
Your decision matters the most in your walk with God. All he needs is your Yes and he will change your whole story forever.
